Updated: Did some more work to this one this week. The critique is in reference to how it used to look. I don't know if it passes muster now or not, but I don't dislike it or take a casual view of it.
Another exercise of sorts, instead of a Lotus, this time I borrowed the multiple arm symbolism for this Athena - just for the heck of it.
I think that the face of the figure is the only finished area of the painting. The rest of the figure would benefit greatly from the amount of care that was taken with the face. The anatomy of the left arm tucked under the right could use some work as well as the raised right hand. The extra arms to the side are good although the right hand breaking the format interferes with the flow of the overall painting. I would suggest pulling it in so that all the fingers are visible and some negative space exists between it and the border. The clothing should also be reworked. I would find or photograph some reference of this type of dress and work it in. Finally, I would add some more tonal gradation to the helmet, perhaps even giving it a chrome like surface. The flatness that the helmet has now really takes away from the beauty of the face. This piece has a lot of potential and I think with some reworking it could come together really nice. I hope I was helpful!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
